Hello and welcome to Genny Weaver Art!

I was born and raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and spent the next few years post college traveling the world. I lived in Uganda, Mozambique, South Africa and Alabama before ending up in New York City. My practice began as a form of therapeutic journaling while I was living in the slums of Mozambique. I found a childlike sense of freedom using as many colors as I could find. This freedom seemed to carry over into all aspects of my life. After much encouragement, I decided to go public with my work on social media and quickly had a business creating what I loved. I moved to New York City to get my masters in Art and Education at NYU. I quickly fell in love with my weekend job planning events. I am currently an event planner by day and artist by night. My vibrant, colorful paintings incorporate my deep faith, love for people, and excitement for adventure.

"Argue for your limitations and you get to keep them." The beautiful thing to me about art is there are no limitations other than the ones I self impose. Since perfect does not exist it should never be the enemy of good. Most of my paintings personify this freedom through an abstract expressionist style. This style has allowed me to paint from the heart and given me the liberty to throw a stroke here, a pastel line there and use a full range of vibrant colors. The famous runner, Eric Liddell, from Chariots of Fire said, "When I run, I feel God's pleasure."  I can relate to feeling God when I do what I love. When I paint, I feel God's pleasure.

My work can be found at Heezies in BIrmingham, AL and online.
